Nevada Fair Housing Center is an advocate for housing choice. Homeownership is the American dream for many families. But, there are some questions you should ask before purchasing a home. The most important question – are you ready? Did you calculate the cost of homeownership? What information do you need as a consumer to begin the search for purchasing a home? Where should you go for assistance to get through the process?
NFHC provides education, mortgage advice, technical a ssistance and individual mortgage planning. Program participants also receive information on special programs that might meet their needs.

Growing Your Savings
Nothing in life is free. There is always a cost, even if it is just our time. Homeownership requires an investment of time and hard dollars. Every consumer should have a savings account. NFHC offers a program to leverage your investment.
NFHC offers Individual Development Accounts (IDA), which provides a 3:1 matching subsidy to individuals saving for homeownership and a 2:1 matching subsidy to individuals attempting to establish an emergency savings account.
At a minimum, participants must:
- save for a minimum of 10 months;
- successfully complete a money management program;
- show proof of verifiable income and
- save a minimum of $25.00 per month

Down Payment Assistance
For consumers that have not owned a property in the last two years, NFHC offers, in partnership with participating partners, the WISH down payment assistance program.
NFHC will provide a 3:1 match of up to fifteen thousand dollars for eligible clients, based on need. Homeownership education is required
Small Loans – Maximum $5,000
In some circumstances, where additional funding is needed for home purchase, a small loan may be provided, not to exceed $5,000 (based on individual qualifications).
